Funding Cliff Woes?

(This post was written by Travis Hicks, one of Thompson’s federal education policy editors, and originally appeared on Title I-Derland, Thompson’s blog on federal K-12 policy.) So does the so-called “funding cliff” resulting from the expiration of stimulus dollars have your budget folks running around like chickens with their heads cut off? An issue that certainly hasn’t been fully explored by the mainstream media — the combination of the loss of stimulus dollars and a sure-to-happen reduction in school year 2011-12 federal appropriations has to be a worry for school leaders.

Education Week takes a good look here at the impact the funding cliff might have on schools. There aren’t a lot of good options out there, but let me ask, have you started planning for what could be a substantial downturn in available school funding next year? (Photo credit: Dan Macy)
