As summer winds down, vacations come to an end and we all rush to squeeze that one last summer cookout in, our thoughts naturally turn to back-to-school prep. Here’s a list of upcoming events this fall that you might want to put on your calendar as you gear up and start sharpening those pencils. You’ll notice a theme to these events, we’re all clearly thinking along the same lines these days.

  • The annual Grant Professionals Association National Conference and CharityChannel Summit will be held Oct. 5 to Oct. 8 in Las Vegas this year. The association has information up on their website for interested attendees. This year’s theme is “Silver Linings: Opportunities in Challenging Economies.”

  • The National Capital Area Chapter of the GPA is holding its second annual regional conference, “Maintaining Performance During Challenging Economic Times,” on Nov. 3 in Washington, D.C. Register here.
  • There’s a new round of Grant Professionals Certification Institute exams scheduled for this fall. The day-long exams have multiple registration phases, so pay attention to deadlines if you plan on signing up.
    • Sept. 23 (Ohio); deadline Sept. 2. Register here.
    • Oct. 5 (Las Vegas), coinciding with the GPA conference; deadline Sept. 14. Register here
    • Nov. 9 (Washington, D.C.), coinciding with the Council for Resource Development Conference for community college development professionals; deadline Oct. 14. Info here.

Finally, here’s one for fun from the “where reality meets fiction” category. According to GOOD Magazine the new Spider-Man comic includes a charter school lottery for the young hero replacing Peter Parker in the titular role. Check it out: “Waiting For Spider-Man? New Marvel Comic Features Charter School Lottery.”
