(This post is excerpted from the Nov. 7 issue of Local State Funding Report.) Given the economic realities facing state and local governments, the outlook for law enforcement is “bleak,” according to a recent study by the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

The study, compiled from current surveys and datasets, was released at the annual conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police in October.
