As we move on from Halloween to Thanksgiving and turkeys replace pumpkins, here’s your weekly roundup of news and happenings from the week.

President Obama pushed for Congress to pass the infrastructure piece of the American Jobs Act this week. Here’s video of his remarks earlier in the week.

Despite his efforts the Senate failed to come up with enough votes to pass the infrastructure bill. The Washington Post has a good analysis here.

On the economic front, national employment figures were released this morning. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment rose a little in October (up 80,000 jobs over the previous month) but the unemployment rate stayed relatively unchanged at 9 percent. Not great news.

On Thursday the Corporation for National and Community Service held an event on the Hill “to celebrate the more than 50 companies that have pledged more than $1 billion in service to nonprofits,” as part of its A Billion + Change campaign to mobilize “skills-based and pro bono volunteer services to help build the capacity of nonprofit organizations to effectively meet community needs.”

If you missed the summit the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Partnership and the Nonprofit Finance Fund held on Oct. 21 there’s archived video of the discussions on NFF’s site.
