(This post is excerpted from the Nov. 14 issue of Local State Funding Report.) In challenging times, grant professionals and others in the nonprofit sector need to stay more focused than ever on effective principles and keeping their passion alive to do the work they’ve always done, a speaker at the Grant Professionals Association National Capital Area Chapter conference said on Nov. 3.

“We have to see the need, we have to use data to state what the need is, we have to make the case on how we will solve the problems in creative ways and we have to stay determined,” said David Bowers, vice president with Enterprise Community Partners, a national affordable housing organization based in Maryland.

The grantseeking community should not mistake tough times for a complete lack of funding, said Bowers, as he insisted that “there is money out there.”
