(This post is excerpted from the Nov. 21 issue of Local/State Funding Report.) The Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund opened the competition for its fiscal year 2012 Community Development Financial Institutions Program on Nov. 3 and announced a series of informational events for applicants.

Pending the final appropriations for FY 2012, the CDFI Fund will award up to $123 million in financial and technical assistance awards, the agency said.

CDFIs provide “affordable financing and related services to low-income communities and populations that lack access to credit, capital and financial services,” according to agency documents.

The $123 million expected to be available includes $25 million for financial assistance awards through the Health Food Financing Initiative.
